Trails in

The Breezy Hill Farm

Distance: 1 1/2 miles
Difficulty: moderate

location map

Special Features: open fields and the wildlife attracted to them.

Location:follow Indian Hill Road from Route 44 to Breezy Hill Road. Turn right on to Breezy Hill Road and, in 0.1 mile up the hill, pull off on the left-hand side of the road to park at the trail head.

The trail is marked with yellow blazes and begins trough a deciduous forest where yellow birch and sugar maple predominate. When you reach a field, the trail continues to the left, following the field edge. Another option is to cross the field. However, please note that this area is still being utilized as pasture for cattle.

After crossing a second field and entering the woods to the north, the trail comes upon an old wood road. (To the right the old road is private and leads eastward back to Breezy Hill Road. Please respect our neighbors and do not go upon the road to the east.) The trail proceeds westward from this point, making a loop through an old white pine plantation. Those preferring a shorter hike may cut this loop short by taking the short cut blazed with red dots (the short cut is about about seventy-five yards though a thick growth of ferns including bracken and cinnamon fern).

After returning to the beginning of the loop, retrace your steps to the south and return to trail head.

The western portion of this preserve is bordered on the north by the Sun, Wind and Woodland Preserve. The trails in each preserve may be reached from trails in the other.
