Serious stewardship activity was directed at CLCT's Sweetheart Mountain Preserve in the Fall of 2007. The path along which the old ski tow on Sweetheart Mountain Preserve passed has experienced considerable erosion over the years, perhaps in part from the erroneous impression of visitors to the Preserve that the old tow line constituted the foot trail up the mountain. (The trail actually goes first to the right and then zigzags across the old tow line in switch backs as it ascends.)

CLCT volunteers cleared the entrance to the preserve and the old tow line area of brush and invasive plants, enhanced the serpentine trail up the mountain, and installed water bars across the tow line as well as the trail.

Then came the heavy stuff, which is pictured here. A truck load of riprap (definition: broken rock, cobble, or boulders placed on earth surfaces, such as the face of a dam or the bank of a stream, for protection against the action of water) with a back hoe to distribute it along the old tow line. Heavy boulders were installed to discourage entry by ATVs.
